India's Head Coach selected. All you need to know- who, why and how?

Ravi Shastri has retained his position as the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team. The ‘Kapil Dev-led CAC (Cricket Advisory Committee) meeting’ held in Mumbai on 16th August, 2019, reelected Ravi Shastri for the vacancy till a long extended time for more 2 years from now. Shastri’s last term was from 2017 to 2019 and the coach will resume his duty again. The CAC had shortlisted their six favourites amongst 2000 applicants. The names shortlisted are like this; Ravi Shastri (automatic entry), Tom Moody, Mike Hesson, Phill Simmons, Robin Singh and Lal Chand Rajput.

Ravi Shastri has been hanging around with the team since a long tenure and is bestowed with some great communication skills and player management, which skipped him to the top of the list. Shastri is even favourite among the leadership group and other players, which has driven him far ahead from others. Shastri was also the director in T20Is. The previous term also sufficed everyone as the team defeated Australia, South Africa and New Zealand, away home, eventually proclaiming supreme dominance in red ball cricket and ODIs. The only thing which has spat on his portfolio is the failure of the team in multi-nation tournaments. Otherwise he is head and shoulder above everyone in the list. The pre-meeting interview of Ashutosh Gaikwad, the CAC member, stamped Ravi Shastri as the runaway favourite. In an interview Kohli also stated that he would like to continue with Shastri, but Kapil Dev reported that his advice won’t be taken in consideration.

On the contrary, Tom Moody, the former Sri-Lankan coach and the retired Australian player looked very descent for the post. But from a decade its been something with the board that they go for native coaches, even the foreign coach being more skilled and admired. The rests didn’t match that level to that of Shastri and Moody.

Don’t know if BCCI is going with some major absurdness or what, but the shift of power to select the sub ordinate coaches is something to be pondered. Now the board of selectors headed by MSK Prasad will select the sub ordinates with concern to the head coach and we’ve already seen how Shastri preferred Bharat Arun over the legendary Indian pacer Zaheer Khan for bowling coach. So it’s quite obvious that we’ll see the same coaching staffs once more.
But now whatever be the coaching group or leadership group, the Indian cricket fans are hungry for a multi-nation tournament victory. We’ve two back to back T20 world cups, one in Austarlia in 2020 , followed by 2021 T20 World Cup in India. The calendar for next two years has been focused for T20s. We all hope for a victorious campaign in these tournaments.
