Preservation Architect

Eugene Architecture P.C. is a full-service architectural consulting firm that specializes in historic restoration and building envelope systems. We are seeking a highly skilled Preservation Architect to join our team in New York City. The ideal candidate will have a passion for historic preservation, adaptive reuse, and restoration, with experience in working on landmarked buildings and structures. This role involves conducting research, developing restoration plans, and overseeing construction to ensure compliance with historic preservation standards and local regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Survey, assess and document the condition of historic buildings, structures, and sites.
  • Develop and implement preservation, rehabilitation, and restoration plans.
  • Prepare architectural drawings, specifications, and reports for preservation projects.
  • Work closely with city agencies, including the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission and the NYC Department of Buildings to secure approvals.
  • Research historic materials, building methods, and best practices for restoration.
  • Coordinate with clients, engineers, contractors, and preservation specialists.
  • Conduct field inspections to ensure compliance with project specifications and historic standards.
  • Stay updated on preservation laws, codes, and emerging technologies in conservation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Historic Preservation, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in architectural preservation, restoration, or adaptive reuse projects.
  • Licensure as a Registered Architect (RA) in NY or eligibility for licensure preferred. QEWI are also preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission guidelines, NYC Department of Buildings Codes and Façade Inspection & Safety Program (FISP).
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and other architectural software.
  • Experience with materials conservation, facade restoration, and historic research.
  • Excellent project management, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to conduct on-site assessments from suspended scaffolds, supported scaffolds, aerial platform lifts and work in various field conditions. Candidate must be ok working from heights.
  • Candidate must have a green card or be a U.S. citizen.
