About the opportunity
We are retained by a highly regarded boutique landscape architecture studio to find a Senior Associate Project Manager for their San Francisco office. This is a confidential search.
This is a senior position sitting at the heart of the firm’s project delivery — combining firm-wide operational responsibility with hands-on project leadership. The right person will be as comfortable managing fees, schedules, and sub-consultants as they are leading design reviews and mentoring junior staff.
Key responsibilities
- Primary project file system manager and organiser across the portfolio
- Draft service proposals including scopes, fee models, delivery schedules, and deliverables
- Author and monitor periodic fee projections; review all invoices prior to delivery
- Keep leadership informed of critical liability or payment issues
- Co-manage professional sub-consulting relationships
- Support marketing staff with project details, cutsheets, and website updates
- Primary author of project schedule workplans
- Support leadership with hiring, performance reviews, and bonus recommendations
- Lead internal teaching workshops to develop staff skills and expertise
- Establish and maintain vendor relationships; organise weekly lunch and learn events
- Develop and present design concepts in conjunction with the Design Director
- Lead and mentor Project Landscape Architects and staff
- Identify scope creep and additional service opportunities
- Alert clients to additional services, obtain approval, track, and bill accordingly
- Support permit application package preparation, schedule, and submittal
- Organise pin-up reviews and provide QA redline reviews of DD and CD packages
- Establish and track schedule deadlines, tasks, budgets, and costs
- Serve as day-to-day design team contact and understand and protect the design intent
- Deliver services during construction including office, field support, and project close-out
Required qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in landscape architecture
- Demonstrated project management experience across the full design lifecycle
- Strong financial acumen — fee projections, scope management, budget tracking
- Proven ability to lead and mentor junior staff
- Excellent communication, organisation, and client-facing skills
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite
