Senior Associate Project Manager, Landscape Architecture

San Francisco, CA · On-site / Hybrid · Full-time, Permanent · Competitive salary dependent on experience

About the opportunity

We are retained by a highly regarded boutique landscape architecture studio to find a Senior Associate Project Manager for their San Francisco office. This is a confidential search.

This is a senior position sitting at the heart of the firm’s project delivery — combining firm-wide operational responsibility with hands-on project leadership. The right person will be as comfortable managing fees, schedules, and sub-consultants as they are leading design reviews and mentoring junior staff.

Key responsibilities

  • Primary project file system manager and organiser across the portfolio
  • Draft service proposals including scopes, fee models, delivery schedules, and deliverables
  • Author and monitor periodic fee projections; review all invoices prior to delivery
  • Keep leadership informed of critical liability or payment issues
  • Co-manage professional sub-consulting relationships
  • Support marketing staff with project details, cutsheets, and website updates
  • Primary author of project schedule workplans
  • Support leadership with hiring, performance reviews, and bonus recommendations
  • Lead internal teaching workshops to develop staff skills and expertise
  • Establish and maintain vendor relationships; organise weekly lunch and learn events
  • Develop and present design concepts in conjunction with the Design Director
  • Lead and mentor Project Landscape Architects and staff
  • Identify scope creep and additional service opportunities
  • Alert clients to additional services, obtain approval, track, and bill accordingly
  • Support permit application package preparation, schedule, and submittal
  • Organise pin-up reviews and provide QA redline reviews of DD and CD packages
  • Establish and track schedule deadlines, tasks, budgets, and costs
  • Serve as day-to-day design team contact and understand and protect the design intent
  • Deliver services during construction including office, field support, and project close-out

Required qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in landscape architecture
  • Demonstrated project management experience across the full design lifecycle
  • Strong financial acumen — fee projections, scope management, budget tracking
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor junior staff
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and client-facing skills
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite

What’s on offer

  • Competitive compensation dependent on experience
  • A senior leadership role with genuine firm-wide impact
  • The culture and agility of a boutique studio with ambitious growth plans
  • A collaborative, high-standards, people-first environment
