Junior Architect (1-3 Years)

About WAU

WAU – Watchorn Architecture & Urbanism – is a full-service architecture and urban design practice based in New York City, working across residential, commercial, and institutional sectors. Our work is driven by a deep curiosity for new organizational typologies that offer unique ways of living, working, and engaging with one another.

Our practice is structured around a clear distinction between project design and project delivery roles. While our design team leads the creative aspects of a project including conceptual development and design authorship, our delivery team leads the technical elements, ensuring these ideas are translated into well executed, code-compliant, and constructible buildings, on time and on schedule. This position is firmly embedded within the project delivery side of the practice.

The Role
WAU is seeking a Junior Architect to join our delivery team and contribute to the technical development of high-design projects. This role supports the execution of architectural documentation and construction coordination under the guidance of senior technical staff. It’s a growth-oriented position for a designer who enjoys the rigor of translating conceptual ideas into precise, buildable work.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the production of technical drawings and construction documents
  • Assist with consultant coordination and incorporation of engineering input
  • Help translate design intent into detailed, coordinated architectural solutions
  • Participate in zoning and code research
  • Support submittal reviews, RFIs, and construction phase coordination
  • Apply internal quality control standards and maintain consistent documentation workflows
  • Contribute to digital model development, drawing sets, and specification editing
  • Engage in a collaborative studio environment that values technical and creative dialogue

Who You Are

  • Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture from an accredited institution
  • Have 1-3 years of post-graduate professional experience, ideally focused on technical documentation or detailing
  • On the path to licensure
  • Technically minded, with a strong interest in how buildings come together
  • Familiar with zoning, codes, and construction methods
  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office
  • Organized, proactive, and eager to develop your technical skills within a design-focused environment
  • Comfortable working within a practice that separates design authorship from technical delivery, with both roles collaborating closely

Why Join Us

  • Opportunity to work on impactful, design-forward projects at various scales
  • Mentorship from experienced technical architects and project leads
  • Studio culture that values innovation, precision, and interdisciplinary thinking
  • Competitive salary and benefits including health insurance and paid time off
  • Clear path for professional development within a growing, ambitious firm
