Introduction
In a world facing increasing material scarcity, climate impact, and construction waste, architecture must urgently rethink how it builds. The Recycled Materials Pavilion competition challenges designers to envision a temporary or semi-permanent pavilion constructed primarily from reused, recycled, or repurposed materials.
The pavilion is not only an architectural object but a statement—demonstrating how discarded materials can be transformed into meaningful spatial experiences. Participants are encouraged to explore ideas of circular design, low-impact construction, adaptability, and storytelling through material reuse.
Objective
The objective of this competition is to explore innovative architectural responses that prioritize material reuse, repair, and resource efficiency while maintaining strong spatial, structural, and experiential quality.
Designs should challenge conventional notions of “newness” and instead celebrate imperfection, patina, modularity, and ingenuity—proving that sustainability and design excellence can coexist.
Recognition
Rewards for architectural excellence
The final prize amounts depend on the total number of entries received. Should the competition not achieve the final registration target, the cash prizes may be adjusted accordingly.
