Fundación Arquia has announced the curator and theme for the 10th edition of arquia/próxima (2024–2025), its programme dedicated to supporting, promoting and showcasing emerging architecture in Spain and Portugal.
Curated by architect José María Sánchez García, this edition centres on the theme “Territorio” (Territory). inviting to rethink the territory beyond its purely geographical dimension, embracing cultural, ecological, social and virtual layers. The call for entries will remain open until February 5th, 2026.
As Sánchez García explains: “Territory has always been present in architecture, but today it is more relevant than ever to reconsider how we interpret it. We move between the virtual and the tangible, between what is real and what is not. This hybrid territory is the working field of the contemporary architect.”
The 2024–2025 edition seeks projects that interpret territory across different scales and perspectives, reflecting the diversity of approaches characteristic of emerging architecture in Spain and Portugal. Submissions may engage with territory from a range of standpoints, from large-scale landscape projects to housing interventions that transform neighbourhoods, as well as urban initiatives, community-based projects and digital processes.
Jury:
José María Sánchez García, Begoña de Abajo, Pablo Millán, María Fandiño, Carles Enrich, Branco Del-Rio, Lloc Arquitectes and Sol Candela.
