Terraviva launches THE CIVIC KIOSK, a new international architecture competition that invites participants to redesign the traditional kiosk, redefining its function, appearance and relationship with public space.
Prizes up to 8.000 € will be awarded to the winners, selected by an international jury including Athanasios Nikolopoulos (AMDL Circle), Valentina Tambovtseva (Jayson Architecture), Yutao Chen (HKS Architects) and Anna Galizia (RS2 Architetti), among others.
BRIEF
The Civic Kiosk invites architects and designers to rethink one of the most familiar elements of the urban landscape: the traditional newsstand. Once a vital hub for information, culture and everyday social interaction, the kiosk now faces an uncertain future in the digital age.
Participants are also invited to redesign the kiosk itself, exploring new forms, materials, spatial configurations and architectural identities. How does a 21st-century kiosk look, operate and transform throughout the day?
PRIZES
• 1st Prize: 3.000$
• 2nd Prize: 2.000$
• 3rd Prize: 1.000$
• 5 Golden Mentions: coupon for a free membership
• 10 Honorable Mentions: coupon for a free competition
• 30 Finalists: published on Terraviva channels
GUIDELINES
Participants are challenged to imagine how this iconic micro-architecture could evolve to meet contemporary needs, introducing new programs, services and experiences capable of revitalising its role within public space. Whether conceived as a cultural venue, a neighbourhood meeting point, a café or something entirely unexpected, the kiosk is encouraged to become a catalyst for everyday urban life.
With complete freedom to choose the site anywhere in the world, participants are asked to envision innovative solutions capable of transforming a forgotten urban typology into a new landmark for civic life.
REQUESTED MATERIAL
One A1 panels (59,4 x 84,1 cm – horizontal) and a brief text describing the proposal (250-500 words).
